Private Sector Innovation
Austin AI companies working in healthcare (Iodine Software), gaming (Aristocrat), financial services (Acrisure), and more are hiring workers. Spark Cognition, which raised $123 million on a $1,4 billion valuation in 2022, is spearheading the movement to integrate AI solutions into large scale industry. It conducts research on integrated AI into the physical world at its 50 acre Hyperwerx facility in North Austin. Jasper is now the world’s leading AI content writer for businesses. In Oxford companies including Exscientia are using AI to develop medicines much faster than previously possible.
AI Academic Research
AI is still in its infancy and there are many challenges that have yet to be solved. The Said Business School has set up a research institution tackling how AI impacts the United Nations Sustainability Goals. Oxford also hosts the Institute for Ethical AI, which researches the impact rapidly developing AI technology is having on democracy, the economy, the environment and more.

The Applied Intelligence Live conference is taking place in September in Austin and will host some of the leading players in the AI and quantum computing space. Oxford Brookes hosted its own Festival of AI in February, partially hosted at the magnificent Blenheim Palace.
